Law firms show they CARE

Leading overseas development agency CARE International and education provider Kaplan have teamed up for the third year running to challenge the legal and financial sectors to participate in the Kaplan 3 Peaks Challenge.

The Challenge, taking place on 12-13 July, will see teams from the legal and financial sectors scaling the highest mountains in Scotland (Ben Nevis, 1,334m), England (Scafell Pike, 978m) and Wales (Snowdon, 1,085m)- all in the target time of 24 hours. This intrepid challenge is aimed at raising funds for CARE’s work in helping 55 million people in over 60 countries find a route out of poverty.

Amongst numerous legal teams signed up so far, commercial law firm Geldards have already started training. Says Team Captain Jamie Turner, “The opportunity to train and take part in such a challenging and rewarding event has offered us the perfect excuse to shake off the cobwebs… with the added bonus of knowing that any money we raise will go towards a brilliant cause.  So far training has revolved around the Geldards five a side football team, but we’re also planning several weekends away at the peak district- I’m therefore confident that by July we’ll all be ready for the challenge!”

The event is part of the CARE Challenge Series of 12 outdoor events aimed at raising a total of £1.2 million for the charity. Teams in the Kaplan 3 Peaks Challenge are charged with the task of raising £6,000 per team. According to Jamie, “The fundraising is the most important aspect of this challenge for us- we’ve set ourselves an intimidating target, but it’s one that we’re all desperate to achieve. We want to raise as much money as we can for CARE and its many good projects. I have already been bowled over by the generosity of friends, family and colleagues, although we still have a long way to go.”

The Kaplan 3 peaks challenge is set to be a fantastic networking event within the industries and a great teambuilder for teams of colleagues. Says White and Case Team Captain, Kimberley Wilson, “It’s a great way to get people from different departments in the office working together as well as a serious personal challenge for myself and the other team members. We’re really looking forward to it. It will be hard work and it will probably hurt … but the views, sense of achievement and knowledge that it's all for a great cause will be worth it.”

The CARE Challenge Team, the charity’s in-house fundraisers, have 13 years’ experience of organising and running outdoor fundraising events and will be with participants every step of the way, from training advice and help with fundraising to ensuring a safe and enjoyable event. Says Challenge Manager Michele Evans, “The Kaplan 3 Peaks Challenge will be a fantastic teambuilder for colleagues in the industry, as well as a great networking opportunity across the legal and financial sectors. We’re absolutely delighted to be working with Kaplan for the third year in a row, and know that this event will make an enormous contribution to support CARE’s essential work overseas.”

Places are going fast for the event, so teams are urged to get signed up. To register or find out more, visit www.carechallenge.org.uk/kaplan or call the CARE Challenge Team on 02079349334.

About CARE
1. CARE is one of the world’s largest aid agencies, working in over 60 countries to fight poverty and helping more than 55 million people every year. Our long-term programmes tackle the deep-seated causes of poverty and we are always among the first to respond when disaster strikes. We remain with communities to help them rebuild their lives long after the cameras have gone. CARE is working to put an end to the causes of hunger and poverty that keep 120 million people in sub-Saharan Africa permanently living on the edge of emergency. Our Living on the Edge campaign is calling on the international community for a dramatic overhaul of the system which is keeping people trapped, and to give higher priority to recovery and prevention programmes, like seed distribution and improved veterinary services so that families can pull themselves back from the edge and be in a stronger position to fight off the next emergency themselves.
