Howard Mayson runs again!
Twickenham’s Howard Mayson’s marathon training has already seen him complete one marathon in the past week. He’s now preparing for the most prestigious running event in the world- the London Marathon, taking place this Sunday. Howard has already smashed his own fundraising target of £5,000, and is approaching a £15,000 total in aid of leading overseas aid agency CARE International.
CARE works in over 60 countries to help 55 million of the world’s poorest people find a route out of poverty. Howard, Senior Vice President Technology for BP, said: “I have been supporting CARE for many years, having encountered their work in Africa whilst heading up BP’s Angola Project. They do an awesome job. My friends and family, as well as BP, have shown fantastic generosity in sponsoring me - they are more than happy to support CARE.”

Howard’s support for CARE has seen him pushing himself beyond what most people would consider physically possible. “I have run for CARE in the last three London marathons and did an 80 mile footrace in January this year. Including match funding from BP, the generosity of my friends and family has enabled me to raise in excess of £40,000 over the last few years.”
Michele Evans, Manager of CARE’s in-house fundraising team, said: “We’re all absolutely staggered by Howard’s achievements. He’s done so much for CARE and raised sums of money that will have such a positive impact on our work overseas. We’re extremely grateful to him, not to mention impressed! We’ll be out on the sidelines on Sunday to cheer him on!”
Howard is still collecting sponsorship for the London Marathon on Sunday. Those wishing to support him, please visit www.justgiving.com/mayson.

About CARE
1. CARE is one of the world’s largest aid agencies, working in over 60 countries to fight poverty and helping more than 55 million people every year. Our long-term programmes tackle the deep-seated causes of poverty and we are always among the first to respond when disaster strikes. We remain with communities to help them rebuild their lives long after the cameras have gone. CARE is working to put an end to the causes of hunger and poverty that keep 120 million people in sub-Saharan Africa permanently living on the edge of emergency. Our Living on the Edge campaign is calling on the international community for a dramatic overhaul of the system which is keeping people trapped, and to give higher priority to recovery and prevention programmes, like seed distribution and improved veterinary services so that families can pull themselves back from the edge and be in a stronger position to fight off the next emergency themselves.
