Fashion Industry Challenges Poverty
Teams from across the Fashion industry are already signing up to challenge themselves and challenge poverty, in the Prima Solutions Adventure Challenge supported by Footwear Today on 20th June.
Taking place in the Brecon Beacons National Park in Wales, the challenge combines outdoor activities in a day of exhilarating fun. The day includes a fast-paced canoe relay, a demanding mountain biking course and a hike on the beautiful Brecon Beacons Horseshoe… all in the target time of ten hours.
Afterwards, celebrations and awards will take place at a well-earned dinner and reception where teams can expend any remaining energy on the dance floor.
The most important aspect of the challenge is to raise £2500 per team to support the essential work of leading overseas development agency CARE International.
CARE works in 70 countries helping 65 million of the world’s poorest people find a route out of poverty. CARE’s long-term programmes tackle the deep-seated causes of poverty and they are always among the first to respond with emergency relief when disaster strikes.
Challenge participants can be sure their money is going where it’s needed most; ninety one pence in every pound raised for CARE goes directly to fund their work overseas.
Where your money might be going
The Prima Solutions Adventure Challenge will raise unrestricted funds, meaning the money can be used by CARE wherever the need is greatest.
A current example of CARE’s work is in the high-profile conflict zone in Gaza. Within hours of the first attacks in the region, CARE was distributing medical supplies to hospitals. CARE has already delivered medicines, blankets, food and water to over 100,000 people whose lives have been devastated by the conflict.
For thousands of innocent families, the suffering will continue for weeks and months to come. With electricity pylons and generators destroyed and medicines in short supply, hospitals are struggling to cope with the flood of injured civilians. Tens of thousands of homes have been destroyed, leaving families homeless. There is an acute shortage of food, clean drinking water and fuel to keep warm.
CARE has been working in the West Bank and Gaza since 1948 and even before this latest crisis the organisation was supplying food to one million Gazans. CARE is well placed to help in Gaza, and are one of the largest deliverers of aid. However, funds are always needed to buy and deliver more relief supplies.
Say Challenge Event Manager Michele Evans, “Not only is the Prima Solutions adventure Challenge a fantastic teambuilding and networking opportunity for everyone in the fashion industry, it’s also a fun and effective way for people to translate their concerns about what they see on the news, and their goodwill, into tangible and lasting results for the better.”
