Womenswear Buyer take on the Challenge
8th March this year saw the global celebration of International Women’s Day, taking place on the 100th anniversary of the New York protests which earned women the right to vote in the USA, and highlighting the continued importance of gender equality today.
While women’s rights have moved forward significantly in the Western world in the last 100 years, many of the world’s poorest countries are miserable places for women to live. According to CARE International, women are the poorest people in the world. More than 70 per cent of the 1.3 billion people who struggle to survive on less than 60 pence a day are female.
Gender is one of the main focus issues of CARE’s work in over 60 countries. Take Afghanistan - one of the most dangerous places to be female - where in some areas girls are used to pay opium debts, many women endure deaths threats because they work, and only two per cent of rural women can read and write. CARE seeks to tackle these inequalities by providing education to thousands of women and girls.
CARE Challenge media partners, Womenswear Buyer, have been inspired by CARE’s work for women. As well as partnering with CARE to publicise the Prima Solutions Adventure Challenge for the Fashion and Fashion retail sectors, they have gone that extra step and entered an all-girls team in to the Challenge. This will see them pedalling and paddling for CARE during the 12-hour multi-activity event this June!

Isabella and her team will be hiking, biking and canoeing in the Prima Solutions Adventure Challenge on 21st June this year, along with teams from the Fashion and Fashion retail industry. If you’re interested in joining them, register your team here.
