Credit Crunch

When it comes to the credit crunch everyone is being affected in one way or another by the current global financial crisis. With so much to worry about at the moment, should we be concerned merely with our money matters or do we need to take a look at the bigger picture?

SudanAs the effects of the current credit crunch worsen, we all seem to be having to tighten our belts. Many of us are taking to our bikes instead of taking costly public transport to work. We indulge in little treats with more caution. The daily luxury coffee is just that: a luxury.

But for poor countries, the effects are far worse. As the combination of high food and oil prices and slowing global demand for exports is squeezing poor countries, more and more people are being pushed to the edge of emergency. When a family earn so little that they have to spend over 80 per cent of their income on food, there’s not much room for squeezing; and with people in the developed world sparing less money, charities are suffering at a time when they are most needed. It’s now absolutely vital to keep supporting the world’s most vulnerable people in the face of such disaster.

The fact is, raising money for CARE is now more important than ever.

So why not beat the credit crunch and take part in a challenge event with CARE?

By taking part in a challenge with us you would be raising funds which are more vital than ever at the moment. Plus, physical exercise produces endorphins which lift your mood, so whether it is cycling, walking, running or a gym workout; training for an event can make you feel on top of the world. And isn’t it times like this that colleagues need a boost to team morale? A challenge event is the ideal way to help out while boosting morale, team spirit, getting out of the office and not letting the credit crunch grind everything to a halt.

SudanIf a team event is not for you, then there are plenty of opportunities to get involved in a triathlon or fun run, our London to Brighton Cycle Challenge, or a trekking event in Spain. Whatever you choose the Challenge Team will support you every step of the way and here to get you thinking are some tips on how to kick start your fundraising…

Start early. Registering now will give your team plenty of time to reach and exceed your fundraising goal.

Approach your company for sponsorship. Despite the current economic climate it is highly likely that they will support you with a one off donation, match funding or covering your event costs.

Regular fundraising. Organising weekly or monthly events within work is an effective way of ensuring a constant stream of fundraising, so why not organise a payday cake sale or 5 aside football league?

Something in return. As well as a round robin email asking for sponsorship why not give potential sponsors a reason to get involved. If money is tight, then friends, family and colleagues may well enjoy a charitable event, so why not organise Christmas drinks, a curry night in aid of CARE or a raffle with some big prizes?
