CARE Adventure Challenge supported by NMA post event report

In the heart of the Brecon Beacons, Wales, teams from the new media industry put on their sporting gear to take part in the first ever CARE Adventure Challenge supported by New Media Age.

The teams were raring to go on the Saturday morning, with everyone heading off to complete the first half of the challenge which consisted of the bike route and canoe section. The bike route circled the Talybont reservoir where part way through teams took to the water for the canoeing leg of the challenge. Not content with just canoeing, Bal, of New Media Age, quite literally did take to the water and fell in taking most of her team with her. Everyone then headed back to challenge base for a well earned rest before they hiked the highest mountain in the South Wales – Penn y Fan.

All teams completed the challenge within 10 hours, which is a huge achievement and one that all participants should be proud of. Congratulations go to the winning team, AdPepper, who completed the challenge in an amazing 5 hours and 15 minutes. Second place went to Bebo who followed by two minutes. There was a great sense of competition and banter - particularly between these two teams who were neck and neck throughout the day.

So it was bikes down, bottles up, boots off and glad rags on for a 3 course meal and prize giving ceremony at the Angel hotel, Abergavenny. All teams eagerly gathered around the scoreboard to find out their final times whilst also laughing at some of the photos from the day. Despite the 6am start that morning, everyone was in high spirits and ready to party the night away.

The most important prize went to our media partner New Media Age, who raised an amazing £6,000 for CARE International. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the New Media Age teams for their fundraising efforts as well as the support they offered by promoting the event.

The event is due to raise a total of £17,000 for CARE International which will fund work including emergency response as well as longer term projects to tackle the deep seated causes of poverty. Thank you to all teams who participated, we really do value your support.  From start to finish, there was an excellent atmosphere: great banter and a great show of sportsmanship, and we hope to see you all again next year.

CARE challenge are an in-house charity fundraising team. We offer many exciting charity events that you can join. All our charity challenges offer amazing adventures outdoors and lots of our activities take place over adventure weekends. If charity runs are your thing, then we have lots to offer - 10K runs, half marathons and many other running events. Or, how about cycling events for charity? We certainly have lots to offer in the charity cycling department. There are charity rides where you can cycle London to Brighton or you can even do a charity bike ride from London to Paris, if London to Brighton isn't far enough! We also have some charity walks and hikes. Later this year we have a sponsored walk that is 25 miles long in order to celebrate the 25th anniversary of CARE International's UK office. If activities outdoors and adventure weekends get your adrenalin pumping, then why not sign up for one of our mountain challenges? We have numerous charity challenges on mountains over the year from three peaks challenges to 24 peaks challenges - if you think you're up to it! For many of our charity fundraising events you can register as a teamleader or part of a team. We believe our charity challenges offer great teambuilding activities and are really great for team events.
