CARE 3 Peaks Challenge supported by City AM

Last weekend, teams raised a staggering £96,000 for CARE by climbing the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales in the CARE 3 Peaks Challenge supported by City A.M.

Everyone arrived at Ben Nevis on the Saturday afternoon and even the team from Nicoll Curtin was full of enthusiasm despite their mission just to get to the base of Ben Nevis.  Following check in, kit check, safety & communications briefings and team photos, everyone was well prepped, in high spirits and raring to get going. Walkers bid farewell to their loyal support crew and began their ascent up Ben Nevis, which at 1,334m is the highest of the peaks.

All teams successfully summited and then descended with the sun. With one down, two to go, everyone drove to Southwaite services for briefings for the second mountain. It was an early morning ascent up Scafell Pike (978 m) which proved a little more taxing for the some of the teams due to the rocky terrain.  With everyone off Scafell by lunchtime it was over to Wales to tackle the final mountain.

Despite a lack of sleep, teams remained up beat on arrival at challenge base in Snowdonia and were keen to keep moving and scale the 1,085 metres that form Snowdon. By early evening challenge base was graced by the first team’s arrival; Wadhurst Park completed in the fastest time, crossing the finishing line in the blazing sun with a total time of 21 hours 56 minutes. They were followed by a steady flow of teams crossing the finish line throughout the evening.

After a celebratory meal, speeches and prize giving, it was off to the party for most participants which by 3.30am still seemed to be going strong…

We would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who took part and for all the funds that were raised. Special recognition goes to Anadarko (with an average age of 50 we’re informed), who under the leadership of Tracy Badham smashed their target by raising a phenomenal £20,000 for CARE. They also take the title of best fundraising team of the year, so from everyone at CARE, thank you. Wadhurst Park raised a whopping £14,000 which is gratefully received. All teams raised very significant funds which will make a great difference to CARE’s work- so thank you to each and every team for their fantastic efforts.

The money raised is vital for CARE and could help more than 190 villages in Uganda to start a savings and loan group, providing them with all the equipment and training they need to form a committee, save money together and start making small loans to fund small business activities.

Steven Lindsay, Challenge Event Manager, said:  “We’re absolutely delighted with the superb fundraising total, as well as the fact that teams had so much fun in the process. Enormous thanks to all our participants and to City A.M. for their fantastic support.”

We would like to extend our thanks to everyone who made this event possible – walkers, support crew, volunteers, supporters, sponsors and guides. We hope that both helping to raise over £96,000 and climbing the 3 highest peaks in the UK made for a perfect end to your summer.

We certainly have lots to offer in the charity cycling department. There are charity rides where you can cycle London to Brighton or you can even do a charity bike ride from London to Paris, if London to Brighton isn't far enough! We also have some charity walks and hikes. Later this year we have a sponsored walk that is 25 miles long in order to celebrate the 25th anniversary of CARE International's UK office. If activities outdoors and adventure weekends get your adrenalin pumping, then why not sign up for one of our mountain challenges? We have numerous charity challenges on mountains over the year from three peaks challenges to 24 peaks challenges - if you think you're up to it! For many of our charity fundraising events you can register as a teamleader or part of a team. We believe our charity challenges offer great teambuilding activities and are really great for team events.
