Ramboll take on the Construction Challenge for CARE
Ramboll have entered a team for the CARE Construction Challenge supported by NCE and Ground Engineering, taking place on 30th June on the Dorset coast.
Alongside industry teams, they will cover a marathon distance on foot, bike and kayak while raising funds for CARE International. Team leader Tim Bignell, Structural Engineer, said: “We saw the event advertised in the NCE and thought it would be a good challenge, so signed each other up!”
CARE responds to humanitarian emergencies with emergency and transitional shelter, permanent housing and infrastructure. Ramboll undertakes a range of charity projects each year and supports its staff’s involvement in their chosen charities, including completing a range of development projects.
CARE’s work is particularly close to the Ramboll boys’ hearts. Team member Andy Mather volunteered in Haiti last summer and saw a construction project CARE was undertaking in a rural village outside of Leogane, the epicenter of the 2010 earthquake. He said: “The work CARE and other charities are doing over in Haiti is having a huge impact on communities which are still facing huge challenges. Constructing earthquake proof shelters and schools really does transform lives and enables people to begin building their lives back together again.”
The challenge will be a refreshing break for the team, who are currently working on a number of different jobs including Riverlight and Fitzroy Place. Riverlight is a set of six luxury residential and commercial buildings on the Thames close to Battersea Power Station with a large, site wide double storey basement. Fitzroy Place is a large mixed use development in central London that consists of five residential and commercial buildings surrounding a central courtyard and listed chapel, all sitting on a two-storey basement.
Ramboll are generously matching the team’s fundraising efforts, which include a Euro sweepstake, a BBQ lunch, a race night and office cocktails.
Ramboll will join Bam Nuttall, Fairhurst, EnterpriseMouchel, Crossrail, Kingspan, Portsmouth University, teams from NCE and Ground Engineering and more.
This is the first challenge of its kind for team Ramboll. Tom goads other teams to sign up: “We can confidently say that no one has ever beaten us in this competition before! So if anyone thinks they can out-do us, bring it on!”
