BAM Nuttall is limbering up to defend their title in this year’s CARE Construction, annual outdoor challenge for teams from across the construction industry. The team of colleagues from Reading are all new to the event, but have big shoes to fill on behalf of the company.
The event sees teams cover a marathon distance on foot, bike and kayak while raising vital funds to support CARE’s work, such as rebuilding homes and lives after a humanitarian emergency. Last year the victorious BAM Nuttall team completed the challenge and additional bonus miles in a remarkable 3 hours and 21 minutes.
Team leader Richard Lewis, Engineer, said: “I think it’s safe to say that we are all looking forward to the challenge. We have regular chats about training for the event, and have spoken to last year’s winning team about what to expect. As for defending our title, well, let’s just say that we are not there to make the numbers up.”
The event takes place on 30th June on the scenic Purbeck peninsula in Dorset. It’s a rewarding physical challenge which will test participants’ team work and determination. Teams will raise vital funds to support CARE International, whose poverty-fighting work includes constructing emergency and transitional shelter in humanitarian emergencies.
Lewis added: “It does hit home the fact that what we do in our working lives in the construction industry, most of the developed world take for granted, such as roads, housing, and infrastructure. So it will be great to raise money so people in countries less fortunate than ours can benefit that same way.”
How to take part
Teams of 2, 3 or 4 will be asked to raise £600 per person to support CARE’s vital work. For further information visit www.carechallenge.org.uk/constructionchallenge or call the CARE Challenge Team on 020 7091 6111.
