CARE in Africa

Funds raised by the CARE Challenge Series are mostly ‘unrestricted funds’, which means they can be used by CARE wherever they are needed most. Here we talk to Vanessa Rubin, Africa Hunger Advisor at CARE International, about CARE’s ongoing work in Africa. CARE works on numerous projects in 24 African countries, any one of which may benefit from money raised by the CARE Challenge Series.

2008 so far...

With just one event left in the 2008 Challenge Series, we can reflect on what has so far been a fantastic season. The Challenge calendar this year has been diverse, with events taking place in Ireland, as well as England, Wales and Scotland and a final 3 Peaks Challenge in Spain to take place later this month. The 2008 Challenge Series has also been a great success for CARE: the fundraising total has reached a fantastic £1.1 million!

London To Paris Event Report

The first CARE London to Paris Cycle Challenge took place on 17th-19th July 2008. The event saw 23 ambitious cyclists take on the 230-mile trip in three days, arriving at France's L'Arc de Triomphe in Paris amid glorious sunshine on Saturday. All participants completed the challenge, a huge personal achievement alongside the fantastic collective achievement of raising over £30,000 to support CARE International's work in helping 59 million people in nearly 70 countries find a route out of poverty.

Kaplan 3 Peaks Challenge post-event report

The weekend of 12-13 July saw 19 teams from the Finance and Legal sectors descend on Fort William in Scotland to take part in the third Kaplan 3 Peaks Challenge – to tackle the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales. Teams pledged a fantastic £100,000 which will make a tangible difference to communities supported by CARE overseas.

Starbucks Adventure Challenge post-event report

It was with excitement that 41 teams of Starbucks Partners and Support Crew descended upon Glamorgan University in South Wales on Saturday 5th July to prepare for the third Starbucks Adventure Challenge, this year in the Brecon Beacons. They had signed up for a Challenge and that is what they received, overcoming many obstacles throughout their weekend in Wales!

The biggest fundraiser so far in the CARE Challenge Series took place on 28th -29th June in the shape of the CARE 24 Peaks Challenge supported by Lexicon Partners. The total pledged by teams came to a fantastic £260,000, and participants more than earned their sponsorship donations throughout the event, with outstanding shows of determination, energy and team spirit.
