Attracting a mixture of returning companies as well as teams new to the event, participants this year included Anadarko, Hess, TGS, Amec and Nedbank Capital. The six-stage event saw teams taking on a series of challenges that tested their mental and strategic thinking as well as their physical fitness through a combination of running, biking and canoeing.
Joining the teams in Dartmoor was Charity Ambassador and former Wales Rugby Union captain, Colin Charvis, who formed part of the charity team which included representatives from both CARE International and Sparks.
Standing out-of-breath but exhilarated on the finish line at Fingle Bridge, Edward Collins, Captain for Team Neftex commented:
“It’s been an amazing experience, one which we have enjoyed sharing with some great people - we’ve made great connections and forged new working relationships all while having fun and testing ourselves in this beautiful location. We are so proud to have helped raised a staggering £200 000 for two fantastic causes and the chance to make a difference to these charities has been a huge incentive to us in the build up to the event. It’s been a brilliant weekend in Devon and we’re returning home for some well-earned rest – I can’t wait to tell everyone back in the office about our experience and encourage them to get involved next year!”
Charity Ambassador Colin Charvis had this to add: “It was an honour to compete in the BG Energy Challenge 2012 - UK, not only to reach the finish line after a very tough two and a half days but more importantly to contribute to the incredible amount of funds raised for Sparks and CARE International. The sense of achievement and camaraderie we are all taking away from this weekend is huge and a justifiable reward for all the hard work – well done to everyone!” - Check out the photos from the event.
